Approaching Federal Grant Deadlines

With the end of June comes the end of another grant cycle for several federal grant programs administered by the Utah Division of Emergency Management (DEM). Recipients of funds should be aware that several grant awards are set to expire at the end of June, and that awards must be spent by that time to avoid forfeiture of funds.

Award documents, as well as Citizen Corps awards distributed under the 2014 State Homeland Security Program (SHSP) grant, are set to expire June 30. Jurisdictions that have not spent awarded funds by this date will lose access to their awards as they will be redistributed to other viable projects within the region.

Additionally, the 2015-2016 Hazardous Materials Emergency Preparedness (HMEP) grants awarded to LEPCs will also expire at the end of June. LEPCs must spend their award and provide a 20 percent local match, OR provide their regional DEM liaison with a written plan by June 30 for how they will spend funds between July 1 and September 30. LEPCs have until July 31 to submit reimbursement requests and supporting materials to the State.

Finally, all awarded 2015 Emergency Management Project Grant (EMPG) funds must be spent by June 30, and reimbursement requests and progress reports should be submitted no later than July 20.

Please watch for your 2016 EMPG Award Documents soon. While the State has not yet received 2016 EMPG grant funding from FEMA, first quarter reimbursements will be processed as soon as possible. Second quarter EMPG progress reports and reimbursement requests will be due July 20. Please be aware that late reports will not be accepted.  If you experience circumstances beyond your control that adversely affect your ability to submit reporting and reimbursement requirements on time, please contact DEM Director Kris Hamlet via email for consideration of an extension.
