The Division of Emergency Management family sends its love to the Thornton family. We were all shocked to learn of Joe’s passing following a heart attack after knee surgery. Joe’s work at DEM in our Logistics Section touched nearly everyone in this office. He retired from DEM Feb. 1, 2014.

Today, we’re sharing some memories of our friend.

“Joe was one of the first people I met when I started in 2010. At first, I knew him as one of the ‘car guys’ who kept our fleet vehicles running in tip-top shape. Then, I got to know him and his expertise at preparing our agency for a major accreditation program. He was very passionate and willing to help. He was a great friend.”

“Joe was always a great resources to work with. He always kept the mission of what we do and was always the first person to offer help.”

“One day, Joe made me a Fab Bologna Sandwich! He also taught me how to meditate.”

“Joe was always pleasant and happy to me!  He knew how to save money and not spend his money foolishly.”

“He helped us so much at our agency. His legacy will live on.”

“Joe was unique in his perspectives and very valuable to us. He will be missed.”

“Joe was a great man. He will be missed.”

“Joe was a wonderful man. Thankful for knowing him.”
